Kimchi Academy for Children will be on Tuesday to Friday in the morning until the end of the year. Children will be divided into groups by age, 6-10 and 11-13, for the 40-minute class. Entrance and program fee are free for children and parents, and those who participate without registration can join the program when the parents pay the entrance fee. Registration is available on Museum Kimchikan’s website www.kimchikan.com.

For children aged from 6 to 13, Kimchi Academy for Children provides opportunities to get familiar with kimchi and the kimchi making culture ‘Kimjang.’ The program is conducted by a professional educator of Museum Kimchikan, featuring kimchi making experience and taste education. “Now I can better appreciate and enjoy kimchi,” “I didn’t know much about kimchi, but I’ve learned a lot,” and “It was good to know how to make kimchi easily” are among the positive feedbacks from children who attended the program.

Since its beginning of the Kimchi Academy for Children in May 2015, Museum Kimchikan has offered 780 sessions for more than 20,000 students free of charge.

Kimchi Academy for Multicultural Families is a session where people of diverse culture in Korea can learn about kimchi. The program includes detailed instructions on entire process of kimchi making from salting, making and storing.

Kimchi Academy for Foreign Visitors is a program for Korean language students and various groups of foreign residents who are interested in the Korean traditional culture. The session is given in Korean by a professional educator, featuring dumplings tasting, kimchi making experience and language class for Korean expressions of taste.

Museum Kimchikan, a place for stories and experience on the Korean tradition of kimchi and kimjang, is frequented by thousands of children, multicultural family members and foreign visitors every year,” said Kyung-in Na, a Part Manger of Museum Kimchikan. “By further developing hands-on sessions and experience programs, we will spare no efforts to make sure visitors have the best possible experience in the museum,” she added.

Museum Kimchikan, formerly Kimchi Museum, is the nation’s first food museum established in 1986. The museum moved from Samseong-dong to Insa-dong and reopened with the current title in 2015, featuring analog and digital contents on history, varieties and traditions of kimchi. It is the only Korean museum to be selected by CNN as one of the World’s best 11 food museums in 2015, and Korea Tourism Organization recently picked Museum Kimchikan as a must-visit attraction for gourmet museum travelers in 2018.
